About
Caleb is an illustrator, writer, and musician living in the Chicago area of northern Illinois.
His paintings and focus primarily on minimalist compositions, focused by a narrow, vertical canvas. Bringing both tightly rendered details, alongside the innate chaos and expressive nature of watercolor, he is constantly pushing the boundary between illustration and fine art. In addition to his iconic watercolor style, he also creates emotive and emotionally evocative drawings using colored pencil, or other dry media, that retain his minimalist sensibilities, and blur that illustration/fine art line much like his paintings.
In March of 2019, the first published retrospective of his work was released as the book ICONIC: The Art of Caleb King, collecting his favorite paintings between the years of 2015-2018.
In June of 2021, he launched his creator owned project THE UMBRA exclusively on Patreon. The Umbra is a surrealist high fantasy story written in a prose format, suitable for readers 18+.
In March of 2024, his second art book ELF AS FUCK: The Elven Women of Ardoresh was published. This collection of drawings and paintings focused on the elves from his original fantasy story THE UMBRA.
He is an officially licensed artist for Lucasfilm, Marvel, DC Comics, Netflix, HULU, Cartoon Network, AMC, PBS, Dynamite Entertainment, Topps, Upper Deck, Cryptozoic Entertainment, and many others.
He was educated at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration. He travels extensively throughout the United States exhibiting his work, and telling stories.
